Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) engages patients and the public in the decision-making and development of healthcare policies, services, and research. Patient advocates, especially those who are not affiliated with formal patient organizations or healthcare institutions, play an important role in PPI but also face distinct challenges and opportunities.
IPPOSI (Irish Platform for Patient Organisations, Science and Industry), the Irish EUPATI National Platform (ENP) and Mandy Daly, Director of Education and Research, Irish Neonatal Health Alliance are collaborating to develop a toolkit aimed at empowering patients to engage in effective Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) partnership.
A toolkit should offer patients practical guidance on how to effectively engage by understanding the PPI landscape in Ireland; by being prepared through active participation, education, training and networking. Patient self-care is essential to being prepared. By prioritizing their own well-being, patients can engage more sustainably and effectively in PPI. Effective PPI that safeguards patient involvement starts with an agreement on how to work together.
The goal of this lunchtime webinar is to explore a toolkit to equip patients with the knowledge and confidence needed to participate meaningfully, ensuring their voices shape healthcare services, policies, and research in Ireland.
