Introduction
Research Area:
Cancer
What is the research about?
We are seeking Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) contributors to join a new policy-related research project focused on equity, access, and inclusion in cancer care, with a particular emphasis on access to clinical trials. This research, led by Cancer Trials Ireland, aims to explore the barriers that patients from diverse backgrounds may face when participating in clinical trials. These may include issues such as lack of translated information, limited awareness of trials, or other systemic and practical challenges.
The project will also examine gaps identified by research sites across Ireland and Northern Ireland and will highlight steps taken at those sites to improve access and inclusivity.
We are looking to involve a small group of 1 to 5 PPI contributors in this work. We welcome people with a range of relevant lived experiences, including:
- Individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer
- Carers or family members of people with cancer
- People from underserved, underrepresented, or marginalised communities
PPI contributors will take part in a range of roles and activities, including:
- Participation in a PPI advisory group and steering committee
- Reviewing patient-facing materials for accessibility and inclusiveness
- Helping to shape the research questions to ensure they reflect patient priorities
- Supporting the preparation of lay summaries and contributing to project dissemination and publication
Your insights will help ensure that the research remains grounded in real-world experiences and is relevant to those it seeks to benefit.
