The Patient Voice in Cancer Research is an initiative to actively involve cancer patients and members of the public in health research. We now have specific groups looking at other health areas such as diabetes, arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. Bringing the lived experience of patients to these research discussions is very important.
Health research can improve the lives of patients everywhere. We want to include diverse voices in research discussions equally and accessibly. What health issues are most important to you and your community? What are the health care barriers in your community? What challenges/barriers makes it hard for your community to join health research discussions? Do you think someone with personal experience could raise awareness about health issues better than a scientist? Why might this be true?
In this workshop, being organised by researchers and our existing patient group, you will work with us to create a survey about health research awareness for ethnic minority community members. Together, we will discuss the challenges or barriers that may stop community members from joining public & patient involvement (PPI) activities. We will hear from community partners with personal experience of health conditions.
