This engaging workshop on community based participatory research (CBPR) will be hosted by the Cultural HUmility for Mental Health Services (CHUMS) Study and presented by Prof. Lorenda Belone, PhD, MPH, a renowned expert in CBPR with extensive experience working with Indigenous communities.
CBPR is an approach to research which is defined by its commitment to optimise collaborative, equitable partnerships among researchers, stakeholders, and community members throughout all phases of the research process, from developing research questions to disseminating research findings. At the core of CBPR is entrenched respect for the value of diverse knowledge systems, or ‘multiple ways of knowing’, and their integration into the research process.
This workshop is designed for individuals and organisations interested in participatory health/ mental health research, and patient and public involvement (PPI) including researchers, PhD students, masters students, community organisations and people with lived experiences of health/ mental health difficulties. It is an opportunity to learn about this approach and how to conduct CBPR in a genuine and meaningful way.
