Health and Social Care Data: What is happening? Plus, Have Your Say!

Do you know what happens to your health and social care data, including how it is safely used? Many people want to better understand how their information is used securely and how it helps improve services, support research and benefit the public.

The HSC Data Institute is hosting a free public engagement event for patients, service users and members of the public. The aim of the event is to increase understanding of how health and social care data is used across Northern Ireland, while giving people the opportunity to share their views and ask questions.

The event aims to:
• Explain how health and social care data is collected, stored and used safely.
• Explore how data supports planning and improving services.
• Showcase how data is used in research to improve health and care outcomes.
• Discuss the safeguards in place to protect personal information.
• Give attendees the opportunity to ask questions and speak directly with experts.
• Gather feedback from members of the public to help inform future work around data use and public involvement.

The day will feature presentations, interactive discussions and question-and-answer sessions, creating opportunities for open and honest conversations about health and social care data. No previous knowledge or experience of data, research or healthcare is required.

The event will take place on 30 September 2026 at the Assembly Buildings Conference Centre (formerly The Spires), Belfast city centre. Registration opens at 9.30am, with the event running from 10am to 3pm.

Attendance is free and includes welcome refreshments and a hot lunch. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
