COMPASS: Community Participation for Stop Smoking Services in Ireland

Introduction

Research Area:

Public Health

What is the research about?

This two year project is a collaboration led by RCSI researchers and the HSE. We are interested in co-designing a new service to help people stop smoking, and then designing a toolkit to make sure it can be implemented well. The project idea was developed with input from three members of the public and we have already started. So far, we have visited Limerick and Cabra, Dublin in late September and early October 2024 to talk to community members and staff about stop smoking services in Ireland. We are looking for members of the public to join our team as soon as possible to advise on the ongoing research.

Who is the opportunity for?
We are looking for adults (18 years and above) from anywhere in the Republic of Ireland. No prior experience is required. We are looking for two contributors who will join our project steering group and an additional 4-6 members to join our PPI advisory panel, to feed into our decision making for the project.
What will PPI contributors do?
You will help us make decisions on how to carry out the study, interact with our community members, analyse and share our results in the best way possible. We also want to set up a panel to hear the views of people who smoke and would like our new members to help us do this. You will play an important part in guiding our research and making sure the public perspective is at the centre of our work. As we have already started, we would like your input to start as soon as possible, initially by meeting our team online so that we can give you a background of our study and answer any questions you may have (1-2 hours). Following this we will decide on how often we need to meet / contact each other by email.
