PPI Member of a National Research Ethics Committee

Introduction

Research Area:

Clinical trails/ In vitro diagnostics/ Medical devices

What is the research about?

The National Office for Research Ethics Committees is now seeking expressions of interest for membership of the National Research Ethics Committees (NRECs) for members with a wide range of expertise, including members of the public and patients.
Research must always be conducted ethically and must follow EU and international regulations. NRECs review research proposals and provide an independent opinion on the ethical aspects of research based on the detailed protocol (step-by-step) plan outlined in the proposal. The NREC review confirms that the proposed research meets the highest ethical standards.
There are three different NRECs, each with its own members.
Public and patient members of NRECs consider the perspective of the research participant when considering the ethical aspects of the proposed research. Appointed members will receive training, access to the electronic tools necessary to conduct Committee work, and operational and technical expert support from the dedicated National Office team.
More information on the call is located on our website. This is an exciting opportunity to support health research in Ireland, to gain insight into forefront health developments and to ensure that Irish research is strengthened by the highest ethics standards.
Please contact membership@nrec.ie with any questions you may have about the work of the NRECs or Membership.
