Dr. Aideen McCabe

Post-doctoral researcher, PPI Ignite Network @ UCC

Aideen recently completed her PhD entitled ‘Advancing Ovarian Cancer Research through Subtype Specific Models, Molecular Stratification, and a Patient Guided Approach to Identify Long Non-Coding RNA Biomarkers’ based in the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. As part of her research, she adopted an innovative approach to PPI by involving women with lived experience of ovarian cancer as active partners throughout a computational biology study. These women contributed their insights at every stage, from shaping research priorities and selecting suitable sample types, to reviewing patient information materials and co-authoring publications. Aideen has recently joined PPI Ignite Network@ UCC as a postdoctoral researcher where she is now leading the PPI Shared Learning Group for PhD researchers, where she facilitates peer learning, leads the evaluation of the programme, and delivers training to support researcher development and meaningful engagement with PPI.
