Know Your Numbers – Have Your Say

Introduction

Research Area:

Blood Pressure

What is the research about?

Many people have high blood pressure and may not know about it. Finding high blood pressure early and managing it can help reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack.

This project aims to create a new guide to help people better understand blood pressure and what they can do about it. The research team wants the guide to be written in plain, everyday language, rather than medical language, so that it is clear, useful and accessible to the public.

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)

The research team would like to involve people with lived experience of blood pressure, as well as family members, friends or loved ones who have supported someone with blood pressure care.

Contributors’ views will help the team understand what information people need, what language is most helpful, and how the guide can be made more patient friendly.

What will PPI contributors do?

PPI contributors will be invited to take part in a discussion group. The discussion will focus on how people understand blood pressure, what information they find helpful, and how a new blood pressure guide can be made clearer and easier to use.

Discussion groups will take place in August and September 2026 in Cork, Letterkenny, Limerick, Dublin and Galway.

Contributors will be reimbursed for their time.

Who can take part?

The research team is looking for people with lived experience of blood pressure, as well as family members, friends or loved ones who have experience of supporting someone with blood pressure care.

No previous PPI or research experience is required.
