Voices That Matter – Join Us in our Mission to Stop Pressure Sores

Introduction

Research Area:

bedsores/ pressure injuries/ pressure sores/ pressure ulcers

What is the research about?

We want to learn more about pressure sores (also called bedsores) in the future. Pressure sores happen when someone stays in one position for too long, which damages their skin.

Before we start, we want to talk to people who know about and or have experienced pressure sores. This will help us decide what to study together. We want patients and caregivers to help us understand how to prevent pressure sores, based on their needs and experiences.

We want people who know about pressure sores to have a say in making important decisions about avoiding them.

Who is the Opportunity for?
We are looking for eight to ten people with diverse backgrounds, perspectives and experiences who have either:
• had a pressure sore
• are trying to avoid having a pressure sore
• assisting someone with a pressure sore

We want to highlight the importance of including people with diverse skin tones in our partnership in order to better understand how to avoid pressure sores, and to address healthcare disparities.

PPI plans
We would like these people to become our advisory partners and decide with us:
• What needs to Change to better avoid pressure sores
• Where we should Start with the changes we want to make
• What Solutions can help make things better
• How we can Improve the lives of those affected by pressure sores

For our meetings, we will work with the advisory partners to create a “terms of reference” document. This document will explain how we will have our meetings, how we will reimburse them for their time, and how we will handle any concerns. We are also making a toolkit to help contributors get support if they feel upset.

Opportunity for:

Person living with condition / Parent or carer / Service user
