Introduction
Research Area:
Health economics/ Community-based healthcare/ Disability management
What is the research about?
Current models of care for individuals with neuro-physical disabilities (for example spina bifida, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis etc.) are disconnected. Recently, the government established a series of action plans to promote the expansion of Ireland’s community healthcare network. Such an expansion aims to encourage individuals to take control of their locally, potentially reducing inequalities for marginalised populations, including those with disabilities.
In our research, we want to design a survey to investigate individual preferences for community-based healthcare to see what aspects of these services people value the most. These PPI activities will help us to decide what to include in the survey and how best to distribute it. We hope that the results from this research, amplified by the insights of our PPI contributors, will inform better public policy making regarding community-based healthcare for individuals with neuro-physical disabilities.
Who is the opportunity for?
We are looking to engage with between 4 – 8 PPI contributors to advise our survey design. This is open to individuals aged 18 or over, based in the Republic of Ireland. Experience engaging with a community-based healthcare organisation is preferable, but not necessary. Previous experience in PPI or research is not required. In particular we welcome:
• Any individual living with a neuro-physical disability
• Any family member of an individual living with a neuro-physical disability
• Experts in the provision of community-based care.
What will PPI Contributors do?
We will ask you to meet us for a two-hour online workshop in mid-March (date and time to be decided), focusing on survey design. After this workshop, you will be asked to take part in a one hour one-to-one online meeting in April (date and time to be decided) to review the survey design to identify any further changes. Finally, we hope to evaluate all PPI activities in a final two-hour online workshop in June (date and time to be decided).
