What is the research about?

Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) and In4kids, the Irish Network for Children’s Clinical Trials, have launched a new National Young Person’s Advisory Group (YPAG) which invites children and young people to share their voice and help shape child health research in Ireland. This YPAG will ensure that the voices of children are central in shaping child health research and clinical trial design in Ireland.
Who is the opportunity for? 
The national Young Person’s Advisory Group (YPAG) are looking for 40 children and young people aged between 12-18yrs who have experience of chronic health condition, have participated in a clinical trial, have a family member or friend with such experience, and or who have a keen interest in science and research. This collaboration is funded by the Health Research Board (HRB).
What will the YPAG do? 
Examples of the type of work members of the YPAG will be involved in include: helping researchers design research questions and projects, reviewing research materials, attend conferences and other meetings representing the YPAG, raise awareness of health research, and helping researchers look at the results of studies and designing information leaflets discussing these results.

Time commitment:

You will be asked to attend a ~90 minute online meeting every 6 weeks. The YPAG will meet on a Saturday face-to-face 4 to 5 times a year. his YPAG is a sustained group and there is no set end date.

Contact between meetings:

You will be contacted between meetings with materials for the upcoming meeting. This is to give you a chance to review materials if you so wish before the meeting.

Length of involvement:

Children and young people can be involved with the YPAG up until they are 19 years of age. They can withdraw from the YPAG at any time before this age if they so wish.

Meetings will take place on Microsoft teams. Members of the YPAG will be communicated with via email and text (if they opt in to text communication) about upcoming meetings.

The in-person meetings will be held in different parts of the country. We will give you plenty of notice about these meetings and will help you prepare for them. We will also help you plan how you will get to the meetings. These meetings will be a great opportunity to meet fellow YPAG members, and to meet the researchers you’ll be helping.
