Participation as lay member in research ethics committees of TU Dublin

What is the research about?

TU Dublin is seeking to recruit non-academic lay members for a number of their ethics committees, as part of their revised ethics committee structures. Participation is not directly in research but about the evaluation of research studies in the University to ensure that the research is carried out responsibly and ethically.  The perspective of non-academic and lay members is an essential contributor to supporting good practice in review of research proposals.
Who is the opportunity for?
This call is open to all members of the public resident in the Republic of Ireland. We will be recruiting up to 8 applicants as lay members of our ethics committees.
What will lay members do?
 Members would join TU Dublin academic staff and other external members in reviewing research proposals to provide a holistic ethical perspective on the research.

Time commitment:

Meetings are monthly during the academic year - a total of 10 meetings would be typical in a given year. Each meeting would be expected to be no more than 90 minutes and usually between 11am and 3pm.

Contact between meetings:

As the role is related to review of material there will be some requirement to access and review documents between meetings to prepare for the meeting. In the early stages there will be time required for training of committee members..

Length of involvement:

Three years, with a possibility for one renewal of the participation.
