The Green Paper on disability reform was published in September 2023 by the Department of Social Protection and opened to a discussion/consultation on how best to support people with disabilities into the future. Its purpose was to start a structured conversation on the future of long-term disability payments.
The PPI Ignite Network consulted with stakeholders and people with disabilities to create our response to the Green Paper, offering our perspectives on how disability policy in Ireland could be improved to break down barriers to involvement for people with disabilities. At present, people on social protection benefits do not get involved in PPI, or only in a voluntary capacity, due to the potential risk of losing some, or all, of their benefits in compensation for their time. This is a risk which we encourage the Department to diminish.
