Public Involvement Framework

Description:

This Public Involvement Framework is designed to outline the practices that may be undertaken to involve the public in clinical effectiveness processes of National Clinical Guideline Development and National Clinical Audit Governance. The Framework contains templates for 10 different tools useful for the development of PPI across any research project. The individual tools are listed here and the Framework is available here.

This excellent resource was developed by a team led by Professor Veronica Lambert at DCU, for the NCEC’s National Guideline Development Groups and National Audit Governance Committees. The work was funded by the Department of Health. and published in 2018, early in the expansion of PPI in research across the Irish research eco-system.

The development of this Framework was informed by:

  • A systematic review of patient engagement in the governance and development of national clinical effectiveness processes
  • A desktop review of national and international patient and public involvement practices in clinical effectiveness processes
  • A web-based and hard-copy public consultation
  • A consultation with an Expert Advisory Panel
