Gianpiero Cavalleri is Professor of Human Genetics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. His work focuses on the application of genomic technologies to infer structure in human populations, and leveraging this information to identify genetic predictors of disease. Prof. Cavalleri is Deputy Director for the RCSI Office of Research and Innovation (ORI). In the context of ORI role, Prof. Cavalleri is chair of the RCSI PPI in Research Committee, which has the overall aim of facilitating PPI at research level throughout the institute. Through the work of this committee, Prof. Cavalleri is coordinating efforts to develop strategic recommendations and key performance indicators for PPI at RCSI, and to identify and disseminate across the institute, best practise in PPI. As Co-Chair of the PPI Ignite National Working group on embedding PPI into institutional practise and policies, Prof. Cavelleri provides leadership along with Prof Kroll (UCD). Prof. Cavalleri is Deputy Director of the SFI FutureNeuro Research Centre, which coordinates the work of over 60 researchers to provide faster diagnostics, precision therapeutics and eHealth-enabled solutions for neurological diseases. Through the FutureNeuro SFI Research Centre, Prof. Cavalleri is facilitating and embedding engaged research relating to genomics and ehealth in neurological disease, in particular epilepsy. He is principal investigator of the Irish DNA Atlas, a study run in partnership with partnership with the Irish Genealogical Society involving over 350 members of the public helping to provide insight to the ancestry of the Irish genome.
