Policy and the future of engaged research in Ireland

Policy and the future of engaged research in Ireland 26 OctoberOct 2023 11:00 - 12:00 Europe/DublinUniversity College Dublin

Seminar

The landscape of research in Ireland and Europe is changing. In a bid to maximise the return on investment into research there is greater focus on the impact of research. One way of improving research impact is through collaboration with the end-users of research, a process we call Engaged Research. Public and patient involvement (PPI) is a type of engaged research practiced in the health and social care disciplines.
Changes in Irish and EU research policy are now actively encouraging greater participation of non-academic community stakeholders in research. In this panel discussion we will explore how the transition to engaged research can be fostered to create embedded and sustainable culture of collaborating with non-traditional research stakeholders.

Confirmed panellists included:

- Ciara Bates: Voluntary and Community Supports Unit, Department of Rural and Community Development
- David Chapman: Public Engagement Programme Lead, UK Research and Innovation
- Trudy Duffy: Evidence for policy unit, Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science
